Our history

 The Rwenzori Center for Research and Advocacy (RCRA)  located in Kasese Town, Western Uganda, and a national coordination office in Central Kampala, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, EIN 98-1511659, operates in Uganda and is fully registered by the law of Uganda since 2014 as a National NGO registration number 150313682NB. Was Was started by medical doctors, social scientists and  biostatistician and public health leaders, the organization serves women, children and adolescents and caregivers in the poorest communities in the Rwenzori region in Uganda.

Our mission is Empowering communities for improved livelihoods, healthcare and education appropriate for the 21st century. Our vision is Enabling and informed and healthier society. 

RCRA strives to improve healthcare, education, climate resilience, and livelihoods outcomes for the marginalised and vulnerable children, women, adolescents and their communities in the Uganda.

We do this by facilitating access to social services and addressing systemic inequalities. We are a region-wide organization and have a mandate to work with the most disadvantaged and marginalized people to deliver primary care and community engagement programs and services in the rural communities where there are very few resources in place to support high need of vulnerable children, women and immigrants. 

As a multi-service organization we work will all age groups with a particular focus on the most marginalized people ( e.g those living on low incomes, adolescents, people affected and infected with HIV, survivors of torture and victims of gender based violence, elderly people caring for orphans and vulnerable children)

RCRA’s health department operate a not-for profit Community Health Centre III and Adolescent Centre offering free and subsidised comprehensive adolescent and youth sexual reproductive health (HIV Testing and Counselling, STI/STDs screening, Adolescents antenatal care, cancer screening, Family Planning).

The RCRA believes in working with others to increase impact and sharing best practices and continued learning, to this end,  we hold membership status with Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child Health (PMNCH); Girls Not Brides Global Partnership UK; Partnership of Every Woman Every Child (EWEC); Steering committee of Uganda Reproductive Maternal Newborn, Child, Adolescents and Aging Health plus Nutrition (RMNCAAH+N) Platform; Global Digital Health Forum; Youth Advocacy and Development Network Uganda (YADNET) and Uganda Healthcare Federation (UHF).
